The short answer
AirCore HVAC Repair Service repairs central AC, heat pumps, and ductless systems in West Hollywood homes, starting with a full diagnosis before any work. We explain what failed, what the fix involves, and whether repair or replacement is the better choice for your system.
When the air conditioning quits in West Hollywood, a warm afternoon can make a home uncomfortable fast. AirCore HVAC Repair Service is based in Los Angeles, about 6 miles southeast of West Hollywood, and we repair central air systems, heat pumps, and ductless units in homes throughout the city. This page covers the problems we see most, what happens during a repair visit, and how to decide whether a repair or a replacement makes more sense for your system.
Common AC Problems in West Hollywood Homes
Los Angeles has dry summers and mild winters, but the hot stretches still put real strain on air conditioners. Fall Santa Ana winds can bring hot, dry spells after many people assume cooling season is over. An AC that struggled quietly in early summer often fails during one of those late heat waves.
These are the symptoms homeowners call us about most often:
- The system runs but blows warm or barely cool air
- The AC turns on and off every few minutes (short cycling)
- The outdoor unit hums but the fan doesn't spin
- Water pooling near the indoor unit or a ceiling stain below an attic air handler
- Ice forming on the refrigerant lines or indoor coil
- Grinding, squealing, rattling, or loud clicking at startup
- Some rooms stay hot while others cool normally
- The breaker trips when the AC starts
How We Handle an AC Repair Visit
We start by asking what you've noticed, when it started, and whether anything changed recently, such as a power outage, a new thermostat, or remodeling work. Then we check the whole system, not just the part that seems broken. That usually includes the thermostat, electrical connections, capacitor and contactor, condenser fan and coil, indoor blower, evaporator coil, condensate drain, filter, and refrigerant pressures.
Before we start any work, we explain what we found in plain terms and tell you what the repair involves. If the problem is a worn capacitor or a clogged drain line, the fix is often done the same visit. If a part has to be ordered or the problem points to a larger failure, we tell you that up front so you can plan.
Repair Problems That Come With Tighter Spaces
West Hollywood has a lot of condos, duplexes, and older single-family homes, and many of these have equipment in tight spots. Air handlers may sit in closets, attics, or above ceilings, and condensers may be on rooftops, side yards, or shared pads. These locations can hide problems. A condensate line in a closet can back up without anyone noticing until water reaches the floor. A rooftop condenser can collect debris and lose efficiency for a long time before anyone checks it.
If you live in a multi-unit building, let us know ahead of time whether roof or equipment access needs building management approval. That helps the visit go smoothly and keeps your repair from being delayed.
Repair or Replace?
Most AC problems are worth repairing. A failed capacitor, a bad contactor, a clogged drain, or a dirty coil are routine fixes. Replacement deserves a closer look when the compressor fails on an older system, when a refrigerant leak keeps coming back, or when repair calls have become a regular thing. Older systems that use phased-out refrigerant can also be expensive to recharge.
If replacement makes sense, a heat pump is worth considering, since it handles both cooling and heating. Equipment rebates depend on which utility serves your address. Many homes outside the City of Los Angeles are served by Southern California Edison rather than LADWP, so we confirm the current offer for your address before we quote it. Also note that the federal 25C tax credit for heat pumps applied only to equipment placed in service before December 31, 2025. It isn't available for new installations after that date.
If your AC shares a system with an older gas furnace and you're thinking about replacing both, South Coast AQMD Rule 1111 limits emissions from new gas furnaces in this region and is being amended toward zero-emission requirements. Check the current compliance dates before you decide.
Simple Checks Before You Call
A few quick checks can sometimes get your AC running again, or at least help us diagnose it faster:
- Confirm the thermostat is set to cool and the set temperature is below the room temperature
- Replace the thermostat batteries if it has them
- Check for a tripped breaker, and reset it only once; if it trips again, leave it off
- Replace a dirty air filter
- Make sure supply and return vents aren't blocked by furniture or rugs
- If you see ice, turn the system off and let it thaw before running it again
